Letter from the 2018 President

Greetings WHPRMS Members and Friends,

Welcome to 2018! It’s a new year and the WHPRMS Board of Directors has a whole slew of new plans and ideas to drive membership and provide our current members with more valuable educational content.

For those who don’t know me, my name is Rebecca Goplin and I’m your acting WHPRMS President for 2018. I’m currently the Marketing Manager for Tea Leaves Health, and I’ve been a member of this organization since 2010. I have served on the board in various capacities since 2014, first as the Communications Review Co-Chair, then the Communications Review Chair, then Secretary and now President. I am proud to have the opportunity to lead such a reputable organization.

WHPRMS has been an invaluable support system for my career over these past few years. I have learned so much through the organization and have made countless important connections during my time as a member. Being a part of this community has not only taught me more about the industry of healthcare marketing, but it has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally in ways I never imagined. And I’ve had so much fun along the way!

My hope for WHPRMS in 2018 is that it continues to grow. Our main goal as a board of directors is to increase and retain our existing membership. We believe the way to do this is by providing more frequent educational communications to our members. Healthcare is a tumultuous industry as a whole, and marketers and communicators are feeling the pressure to deliver more with less. Mergers and acquisitions are constant, departments are shrinking, and we are all feeling the sting. We have less time to seek out professional development content; we need it provided to us. We understand that you want more content that includes information and insights you need to succeed, delivered in a fashion that’s easily and quickly digestible.

This is why we’re continuing our regular blog posts, so our members can be informed of trends in our industry, as well as hear from peers who have valuable insights to share. We will also continue to build our library of educational content on our website — and we’ll be sure to share those articles and snippets out via social media. Make sure you’re following us on Facebook and Twitter!

To add to the educational programming, we are bringing back webinars in 2018. You can find more detailed information below, but each quarter of this year will offer an opportunity to learn from other members and industry professionals. These will be held over the lunch hour and will be recorded and saved on our website, so you can attend the live event and/or view them on-demand at a time and place that is convenient for you.

I also want to quickly mention the little conference we have slated for 2018. And by little, I mean BIG. This year WHPRMS will be teaming up with the Minnesota Health Strategy & Communications Network (MHSCN) and the Illinois Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations (ISHMPR) to put on a healthcare marketing conference unlike any other. Save the dates for September 19-21, 2018 as we bring our first tri-state conference to fruition at the Wilderness Resort & Glacier Canyon Lodge in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Plans are already well underway, so be sure to work the conference into your budget and plan for 2018. You won’t want to miss it…more details to come!

Lastly, I want to thank each and every one of the members that have supported WHPRMS, even through some rough and lean years. Our members bring this organization to life, and we can’t wait to share more with you this year. If you’re a current member and want to get more involved, let us know. Below you will find lots of ways to get more connected with WHPRMS. And if there is anyone in your organization who you feel could benefit from a membership with WHPRMS, please bring them on board! Word-of-mouth referrals bring in most of our new members, so please share this information with everyone in your organization that could qualify for membership. And if you’ve been a member in the past and have let your membership expire, be sure to renew! You won’t want to miss everything we have to offer this year. Simply visit WHPRMS.org.
